The Brooks Pure Cadence 3 is one of the best shoes currently offered by Brooks. It has superb stability, a well-cushioned heel and interior and is also incredibly durable, utilizing clever design tricks and materials to its advantage to deliver a shoe with excellent control, overall appearance and performance. Whilst it is a little pricey and the bold looks may not appeal to everyone, the pure performance and refinement available from this shoe make it a fantastic alternative if you are in the market for a minimalist, high performing shoe number.
The overall look of the Brooks Pure Cadence 3 is fantastic. This is a shoe that is not afraid to shoehorn in numerous bright colors and bold designs to make you notice it straight away. The particular model on test here utilized bright blue, pink and black throughout and the overall look felt modern and clean, which only works to the shoes advantage. The weighting of the shoe, especially round the heel is also fantastic, appearing solid but not overly bulky in design and the use of synthetic materials throughout the upper also looks fantastic, giving it a modern look.
The upper of the Brooks Pure Cadence 3 is an extensive reworking of what came before it and the results are immediately noticeable. Seamless overlays contribute not only to the appearance but the overall feel of the shoe, giving your foot more space and it helps retain the structure around the excellent breathable mesh. The tongue is burrito wrapped which means it offers good upper foot support whilst not squeezing, and there is the PureCadenceNav3 band located throughout the medial side of the shoe that offers fantastic medial support and correction of an incorrect run pattern.
The insole is also one of the best in the Brooks range. Integrally it is the same as seen on other models, but the memory foam conforms to your foot well and the insole is also good and thick, providing excellent support especially through the medial region of the foot. The heel counter also does an excellent job of locking your feet in place, especially if you are a little flat footed and this is a nice incorporation to see.
SOLE DESIGN AND KEY FEATURES
The sole of the Brooks Pure Cadence 3 is also fantastically reworked from previous incarnations. The Pure Cadence 2 suffered a little from a lack of medial support which meant that when under pressure, your foot could quite easily slip into overpronation. This is not an issue at all on the Brooks Pure Cadence 3. There are now two installed stability pods on the medial arch of the shoe, leading to much greater support and there is also now a better support for your toes through toe flex, an installed little support for your toes that gives excellent toe splay and thus better toe-off when you accelerate.
Finally, the bevel on the heel has been increased considerably so that the first point of contact when you land is closer to the joint center. This means that the Brooks Pure Cadence 3 has an excellent transition and a much less likelihood of landing heel first on the strike.
CUSHIONING + SUPPORT
The cushioning of the Brooks Pure Cadence 3 is excellent thanks to the heel design and generally improved midsole reconfiguration of the shoe. Whilst the heel itself is relatively narrow at some 4mm depth, the materials utilized are springy and the insole provides fantastic support all round.
The flexibility is also fantastic throughout the shoe, especially during toe-off and this allows you to accelerate with ease. The grooves cut into the midsole of the shoe do not inhibit the range of motion and the upper sole also adds to the flexibility. Controlling your foot throughout the run cycle is simplistic.
- This is one of the best running shoes for overall stability and range of motion
- Well reworked midsole allows for greater acceleration and overall control
- Well cushioned despite a low heel height
- Great use of materials throughout for support
- A little expensive
The Brooks Pure Cadence is a fantastically balanced running shoe that allows for an excellent range of motion and overall cushioning thanks to several intelligent steps taken during the shoes design and initial phases. It is a little expensive but is by and large worth the money. I hope that this Brooks Pure Cadence 3 review has been helpful.
