For a considerable time now Brooks have been recognized as one of the best comfort running shoe makers currently operating, especially for those who have a flat footed running style or pronate severely whilst undertaking an exercise. The Brooks Addiction 10 is the latest in their line of products, providing a well designed insole and sole design with excellent cushioning and support abilities thanks to their tried and tested design that still stands out as one of the best in its field, even in today’s crowded market.
The reworking and general design of the insole is where Brooks have diverted a lot of their attention with the Brooks Addiction 10 and the results are obvious as soon as the shoe is put on. The inner material of the shoe is fantastic, providing a comfortable but supportive base whilst the rest of the insole works in conjunction with Brooks’ hydro flow technology to ensure your stride pattern is as comfortable as possible.
There is also now a much better integration of the internal support saddle in the shoe. Imagine if you will that it is acting as a manger and your foot is the baby. The bottom is supportive, the sides comfortable but rigid to ensure ankle support is excellent, and the overall experience is incredibly reassuring once the shoe is worn in.
There is also good arch support as a result, meaning that no matter how heavy your strike is or how over pronate you are, the Brooks Addiction 10 will ensure your foot does not undergo rapid constriction when you come into contact with the running surface.
The upper sole of the Brooks Addiction 10 has also been extensively redesigned to keep you satisfied as a customer. The design of the shoe is somewhat understated, tending to focus upon variants of gray and blue but the mesh patterns are symmetrical and even in distribution and there is also a good weighting between the materials themselves.
This means that the Brooks Addiction 10 has excellent breathability through the shoe when in motion and there is also ample support when you go through the process of striking and accelerating. The toe box also has good room, especially if your foot shape is flared at the end thanks to the sole design and roomy overall feel.
The Brooks Addiction 10 also comes up smelling of roses in relation to its cushioning abilities. As it is manufactured for those with heavy gate and pronation, the sole itself is incredibly robust and Brooks have manufactured the outsole to be reinforced and incredibly supportive when you go through your strike pattern, to ensure that there is no ankle role and thus discomfort whilst wearing the shoe.
The rear of the sole is not especially reinforced, meaning that it is not the most comfortable of shoes as its cushioning abilities are low. The midsole is where significant amounts of effort have gone into the Brooks Addiction 10, and thus where it scores highest in terms of cushioning. There are no installed gel pads and the composite material is solid in nature, which partially explains the issue. If you are looking for effective cushioning abilities, then the Brooks Addiction 10 is not the shoe of choice for you.
This is an aspect where the Brooks Addiction 10 rates highly. The shoe is sufficiently stiff to allow you to have good control over your strike and feet shape and form, yet it is flexible enough to not be of extreme discomfort when you run longer distances in them. The sole is sufficiently robust whilst the upper sole of the shoe has enough flexibility to cater to your needs.
- A well designed shoe for those with motion difficulties and heavy gait
- Robust and solid in design
- Excellent flexibility options
- Good breathability and foot support
- Not the lightest of shoes
- Cushioning abilities are average at best
The Brooks Addiction 10 is a robust and well designed shoe if you are not the most capable of runners, with good foot support and strike abilities thanks to its sole configuration. If you are looking for a light and precision shoe, however, this probably will not suffice. I hope this Brooks Addiction 10 review has been helpful
