The Nike Pegasus brand is one of the companies longest running lines, spanning thirty years plus and it is a name that comes with several accolades. Each and every incarnation has offered incredible usability with a solid, cushioned feel that is suitable for maintenance running and longer distance thanks to their incredible stability and overall usefulness. The latest incarnation, the Nike Air Pegasus 30 continues the name on in fine fashion, being a slight reworking of the previous incarnation with multiple new bells and whistles attached.
The appearance of any Nike shoe is usually highly desirable and the Nike Air Pegasus 30 is no different. There are two core colors available in each and every color scheme and they both offset each other incredibly well, which gives the shoe an incredibly unique look. The overall weighting of the shoe is also fantastic. It is incredibly roomy despite a slightly slimmer look than previous generations of the shoe, and the heel at the back is some 8mm off of the floor which gives it a sharp and angular approach.
The upper has received some small tweaks from previous models, mainly in the overlay that forms the outer shell of the shoe. Previous models saw these stitched on, but on the Nike Air Pegasus 30 they are fused on instead which gives the shoe a sleeker look and also provides you with a little more room, especially in the toe box and tongue of the shoe. The heel counter is also effective in its role, giving you a good positioning of your foot within the shoe.
The insole of the Nike Air Pegasus 30 is highly satisfactory for just about anyone who will come into contact with the shoe. It features Fitsole 2 technology, that is a dual layer of cushioning foam below memory foam, which immediately shapes itself to the shape of your foot. This means the ride feels superbly cushioned at all speeds, although the effect is more noticeable at higher speeds. The sock liner material is also incredibly comfortable, being the same seen in the Air Pegasus 29.
Practice makes perfect and Nike was seemingly so satisfied with the sole performance on the previous incarnation they did not feel the need to alter the design on the Nike Air Pegasus 30. Cushlon material is found in the midsole, a little softer than other injection moulded materials and aids the overall flexibility of the shoe greatly. A Nike Zoom airbag is located just below the heel and provides extra insulation during the strike, a nice comfortable added feature.
There are deep grooves cut into the lateral sides and heel of the Nike Air Pegasus 30, which aids midsole compression and also helps in the formation of the midsole arch which reduces overpronation greatly. The outsole of the Air Pegasus 30 features incredibly resilient injection moulded carbon rubber, that is good for wear and also supports the foot to reduce overpronation.
The cushioning of the Nike Air Pegasus 30 is fantastic as a result. At its deepest point, the sole is some 8mm off of the ground and with the air bubble technology installed in the heel of the shoe, you get a supportive and enjoyable ride. The midsole is also well cushioned thanks to the design of the shoe, whilst the forefoot also has an enjoyable ride.
As flexibility was so good in the Pegasus 29 Nike did not alter it for the 30 and it shows. There is a good mix of foot control and flexibility for the strike, giving you good control over your running pattern and overall gait. The upper design of the Nike Air Pegasus 30 is also very well done, not inhibiting your running whilst being supportive.
- A refinement of one of Nike’s most distinct and best selling shoes
- Great visuals and overall design
- Excellent flexibility, allowing you good control over your running style
- Good cushioning and all round support
- Not the fastest shoe currently available for stability, at slower speeds the ride can be a little spongy
The Nike Air Pegasus 30 is a good refinement of an already excellent shoe, featuring a small reworking of most features whilst retaining the excellent performance heel. It is not the best shoe if you have quick maintenance and distance runs, but if you are looking for excellent support shoe this is definitely one to consider. I hope this Nike Air Pegasus 30 review has been helpful.
